WAI regulations

In order to fulfill its mission, i.e. Leading the Web to its full potential, W3C (the World Wide Web Consortium) has decided to promote a high degree of usability for people with disabilities, and to that effect has created a new Project, the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), jointly funded by the industry and governmental bodies worldwide.
The arrival of computers has allowed visually impaired persons to access large amounts of information that, until then, was rarely accessible. Braille readers or speech synthesizers were then able to translate documents or, vice versa, visually impaired persons could create documents using electronic systems.
Unfortunately, the democratisation of the Internet, whose success rests on the display of information, has again limited the access to information for the visually impaired community. Indeed, most websites are designed with far too many visual effects and with an overload of information. This is why W3C has created WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) to establish regulations for making web pages accessible.

Meurthe-et-Moselle Tourist Board has endeavoured to design an accessible website that complies with these regulations, giving preference to the clarity of documents and facilitating navigation.
The accessibility of a website not only improves access for handicapped persons, but also for all users by making the information and contents more visible.
