In Meurthe-et-Moselle, one appellation brings together wines from a rich terroir: the AOC Côtes de Toul. In the heart of France's northernmost vineyard, passionate winegrowers produce white, red, and gray wines.
Across 120 hectares and over 20 kilometers, the Côtes de Toul vineyard extends across eight communes: Lucey, Bruley, Pagney-Derrière-Barine, Domgermain, Charmes-la-Côte, Mont-Le-Vignoble, Blénod-lès-Toul and Bulligny. On its clay-limestone hillsides, facing south and southeast, three grape varieties are cultivated: Gamay, Pinot Noir and Auxerrois.
These grape varieties allow the fourteen AOC estates to produce delicious wines. The white Côtes de Toul, from Auxerrois, evoke aromas of citrus, William pear, and exotic fruits. The red wines, made from Pinot Noir, are delicately tannic and reminiscent of blackcurrant and raspberry.
The best-known wine from the Lorraine region is the Gris des Côtes de Toul. Made from Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Auxerrois grapes, it has a fruity nose with aromas of flowers and red fruits. It is recognizable by its pale pink color.
