The Montauville National Necropolis, known as "Le Pétant," is composed of two parts. The upper part is the cemetery of the 14-18 conflict. It was created in 1915, during the battle at Bois le Prêtre, and developed between 1920 and 1936; it was a grouping of temporary military graves and cemeteries located in the Pont-à-Mousson sector (right and left banks of the Moselle). The lower part is the cemetery of the 39-45 conflict. From 1948 to 1951, the bodies of prisoners of war brought back from Germany and Austria were repatriated. In 1968, the bodies of 39-40 prisoners of war exhumed from Meurthe-et-Moselle were regrouping. In 1971, the bodies of 39-45 prisoners of war repatriated from the Rawa-Ruska disciplinary camp in Ukraine were buried.
