New season and new spaces for the Cité des Paysages
©GBERGER-CD54Located on Sion Hill, the Cité des Paysages is a cultural and scientific institution focused on the themes of biodiversity and ecological transition. After several months of construction, it is inaugurating new spaces this May.
The new spaces of the City of Landscapes
A departmental site since 2020, the Cité des Paysages opened its doors in 2015, after an initial phase of construction. The second phase of development is being completed this year.
The ground floor spaces corresponding to the "wings" of the old convent as well as the farm building have been renovated with the aim of propose new exhibition and activity spaces.
Outside, the roofs and facades of the old convent and the farm have been restored to enhance and preserve the architectural heritage of the site. Finally, exterior design since the entrance to the site has been redesigned. Pedestrian access, signage and overall reception conditions have been improved to offer a more accessible and comfortable visitor experience to the greatest number.
Two exhibitions to discover
The educational and scientific content has been reworked and the museum spaces incorporate more mediation tools to make them accessible to as many people as possible.
- The permanent exhibition: a museum journey through the landscape
La new scenography The permanent exhibition is structured around three spaces.
The route begins with the history of Zion Hill and its landscapes. The second room invites you to reflect on the evolution of the landscape and its impact. It questions the fragile balance of ecosystems and the adaptation of living beings in a constantly changing world. Finally, the last space opens onto the belvedere and the panoramic view that can be admired from the hill: the opportunity to give here keys to understanding the landscape and its representation linked to our imagination and our experiences.
Over nearly 600m2, the 3 rooms allow a fun and educational immersive experience.
- The temporary exhibition “Our Footprints”: the history of Zion revealed by archaeology
Some forty objects, mostly from excavations carried out on site, are on display. They reveal the natural resources of this emblematic site and help us understand how it was populated for over 7 years.
The inaugural weekend of May 24 and 25
The Cité des Paysages opens its doors wide and unveils its new spaces during a festive weekend! Creative workshops, tours, conferences, shows, producers' and artisans' market will punctuate these two days. The various activities are free to access but some require prior registration.
This long weekend will be the occasion to launch the season of the Cité des Paysages, which will run until November 23, 205.

The Sion-Vaudémont hill is one of the 164 sensitive natural areas (ENS) in the department. It is also classified as a Natura 2000 site, whose objective is to preserve biodiversity on a European scale.
