Book on the Square

Nancy to the rhythm of the book

First national literary back-to-school fair, the Book on the Square is organized by the City of Nancy in conjunction with the booksellers' association "Lire à Nancy", under the sponsorship, since its creation in 1979, of theGoncourt Academy. This literary circle is very dear to Nancy sinceEdmond de Goncourt was born in the Ducal City.

Every year in the month of September, more than 160 visitors crowd under the marquee and queue up to receive autographs from their favorite authors. Le Livre sur la Place gives everyone a desire to read!

A delicious book binge

The Book on the Square is three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the beginning of September) where Nancy lives to the rhythm of books, at the marquee, Place de la Carrière, but also at the Opéra national de Lorraine, at the Hôtel de Ville, at the Autre Canal, Salle Poirel…

Conferences, radio broadcasts, round tables, book signings, talks, debates... and even a dictation for dummies: around a hundred events, for as many authors, are on offer.

The Stanislas Prize

The Stanislas Prize has existed since 2015. It is awarded to best first novel of the literary rentrée according to a jury made up of journalists and literary critics.

Serge Joncour, Leïla Slimani, Daniel Picouly, Tatiana de Rosnay and Jean-Christophe Rufin have been its presidents in turn. Big names for a very nice price!

Juliette's advice

"I like the Livre sur la Place, firstly because the weather is often nice and I love sitting on a bench to leaf through the novels I've just bought. And then it's an opportunity to take advantage of the various activities to visit the place in a special way. Listening to the authors and admiring the gilding of the Opera around you, for example... I love it!"
