The Vauban Fortifications

Longwy

The ideal city designed by Vauban: find it in Longwy, which is one of the 9 new cities that the king's engineer built "ex-nihilo" (knowing that he fortified or retouched 160 of them). Vauban's Fortifications are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2008.

An ancient stronghold

The stronghold of Longwy was equipped with all the amenities of a war town. Stroll along the ramparts to discover the Siege Well, Saint-Dagobert Church, Porte de France and its advance, the town hall, the military bakery, the cross casemate and the powder magazine.

The city of enamels

Longwy has been forged a worldwide reputation with unique know-how: that of cloisonné enamels with a very particular blue tone.

Located in the heart of the Vauban fortifications, the Longwy Enamels and Earthenware Museum invites you to admire the most prestigious creations of the city's factories with earthenware, produced from 1798, and enamels, which appeared at the beginning of the 1870s. Also discover works by the sculptor Jean-Paul Aubé and the painter Paul Georges Klein.

Majorelle stained glass windows

The former offices of the Longwy steelworks, now the training center, hide a treasure: Majorelle stained glass windows, created in 1928 by Louis Majorelle.

In Art Deco style, this masterpiece is listed historical monument and represents the world of steelmaking through an overview of the factory, the steelworks and the rolling mill, the blast furnace and the factory chimneys.
