Formerly the lordship of the Bishops of Verdun, Hattonchâtel Castle was built by Bishop Hatton in the 9th century. It is one of the most historically significant sites in Lorraine. It endured the ravages of various wars and was then restored by an American woman, Mrs. Skinner. Situated on a promontory overlooking the Woëvre plain, the castle offers an impression of balance, authenticity, and serene beauty.
