The Quai Choiseul was opened in 1863. The house was built around the same time. The architecture, carpentry, and ironwork still adhere to an earlier traditional style. However, the interior decoration uses murals in an already highly innovative floral style, expressing the themes and motifs of the Nancy School. The glass roof by stained glass artist Antoine Bertin dates from 1900. Made of simple glass and acid-etched glass set in lead, decorated with lilies, orchids, nasturtiums, clematis, tulips, and irises, in shades of green, purple, blue, and yellow, this ensemble is considered a precursor to the stained glass art of the Nancy School. The house can be visited by appointment (30-minute guided tour). Appointments are recommended for safety reasons. Outside of the calendar, school groups, university groups, and tours are by appointment for health and safety reasons. For more information and reservations, please contact us by phone.
