Third site of the UNESCO architectural ensemble of the 18th century, this square created in the 16th century, then remodeled in the 18th, was originally a place of jousts and tournaments, hence its name of "Carrière". At the entrance to the square, two buildings face each other: the Hôtel de Craon (Court of Appeal) and the Bourse du Commerce (Administrative Court). At the other end, stands the Palais du Gouvernement, framed by a hemicycle, decorated with ancient divinities, which housed, under Stanislas, the intendant, representative of the King of France.
