Located in the Primatiale district (now the Cathedral), this brick and stone residence was built in 1619 for Pierre de Stainville, Grand Dean of the Primatiale. Above the entrance porch stands a bust of Duke Henri II, a copy of Bussière, the original of which is in the Musée Lorrain. This is one of the oldest mansions to use red bricks and black brick lozenges, giving it its appeal. The alternation of bricks and stones was not widespread in Lorraine; the dukes used this motif when building the Renaissance fortifications, some evidence of which still exists at Porte Saint-Georges and Porte Notre-Dame. Inside, the superb straight staircase, composed of several flights and several landings, is the masterpiece of this building.
