The Choloy-Ménillot National Necropolis was created between 1914 and 1924 and is made up of three parts. The first is the French cemetery containing the graves of 1079 soldiers: 1926 French (14-18), 1 British, 49 Polish, 6 Romanian, 86 Russian, 2 Serbian and 9 other French (39-45). The second part is the British military cemetery containing the remains of 461 English, Canadian, New Zealand, South African and Indian soldiers. The third part is the garrison military cemetery where the bodies of 49 French soldiers of Muslim faith are buried. In addition to all these soldiers, there are also 57 civilians, family members who have obtained the right to be buried alongside them.
